10. Eikon Battles – Final Fantasy XVI
Final Fantasy 16 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting RPGs we’ve seen in a while!
But what has us really pumped is the game’s Eikon battles.
If you’re not familiar, Eikons are powerful summonable monsters that serve as bosses and can then be called upon to help you in battle.
And in Final Fantasy 16, these Eikon battles are getting a major upgrade!
Each of the Eikon battles is totally unique, with its own style and mechanics.
One might be a one-on-one wrestling match between the Eikon and your own summoned monster, while another pays homage to classic 3D shooters.
And with around 20 Eikon battles to fight throughout the game, you know there’s going to be plenty of variety and excitement.
What we love about this feature is that it’s not just another run-of-the-mill boss battle.
Square Enix has really put in the effort to make each battle stand out and feel special.
So, if you’re a fan of Final Fantasy, get ready to hype yourself up for this one. It’s going to be epic!
9. Wargames Mode – WWE 2K23
The WWE 2K franchise has had a bit of a rocky road in recent years, but they’re hoping to make a major comeback with the upcoming WWE 2K23.
And one of the most exciting features they’re introducing is the War Games mode, a fan-favorite match type that’s been requested for years.
For those who aren’t familiar, War Games is an epic tag team bout that takes place inside a giant steel cage spanning two rings.
It’s a legendary match type that was popularized by WCW in the 90s and has since become a staple of WWE’s annual Survivor Series event.
And now, finally, players will be able to experience it in a licensed WWE game!
But here’s the thing: War Games isn’t exactly an easy mode to pull off.
The dual ring setup presents some technical challenges, and fans have been disappointed in the past when the mode hasn’t been executed properly.
So, if 2K Games can really nail this mode and make it as epic as it deserves to be, they’ll prove beyond a doubt that the franchise is back on track.
We’re crossing our fingers and hoping for the best, because a well-executed War Games mode could be a total game-changer for the WWE 2K franchise.

8. Side Quests – Resident Evil 4 Remake
It’s time to get excited because Capcom is bringing us a new and improved Resident Evil 4 remake.
This game has always been a fan-favorite and now it’s getting a complete overhaul to make it even better.
We can expect updated gameplay to match the recent remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3, as well as some much-needed changes to the more problematic elements of the original version.
But that’s not all!
The new Resident Evil 4 will also feature side quests where you can buy and upgrade items and complete optional challenges for rewards.
And who can forget about the iconic Merchant, who will now dispense these quests?
It’s not every day that a remake expands its scope in such an exciting way!
Now, some of us may be skeptical of side quests that feel like lazy padding, but let’s give Capcom the benefit of the doubt.
If they follow in the footsteps of the recent Dead Space remake (which was originally influenced by Resident Evil 4), these side quests could be meaningful and truly worthwhile.
Regardless, we know that the gameplay is going to be mechanically delicious, so we’ll be playing this game for hours on end regardless of the side quests.
Are you ready to take on the zombie horde once again? We sure are!
7. Dual Protagonists – Like a Dragon 8
The Yakuza series, now renamed Like a Dragon, is coming back with a sequel, Like a Dragon 8!
And guess what?
This time we’ll get to play as not one but TWO protagonists throughout the game’s campaign!
Ichiban, the beloved hero from the previous game, will be reunited with the original protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu, as we switch perspectives between the two.
Now, I know what you’re thinking, “Haven’t we already played with two protagonists in Yakuza 0?”
Well, yeah, but that was ages ago! It’s been almost ten years since we’ve had two playable characters in a Yakuza mainline game, so this is definitely a reason to get hyped.
And if you’re worried that Kiryu’s mere cameo in Like a Dragon wasn’t enough, fear not!
Like a Dragon 8 will let us play as both Ichiban and Kiryu for substantial portions of the story.
How cool is that?!
Sure, some fans think that Kiryu should have stayed retired after Yakuza 6, but let’s be real here, who wouldn’t want to play as two badass protagonists in the same game?
I mean, c’mon, it’s too damn delicious to resist.
6. The Creation Engine 2 – Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI
Let’s talk about Bethesda and their trusty creation engine.
We’ve all been playing games like Skyrim and Fallout 4 for what feels like forever, and let’s be real, the engine has definitely seen better days.
But fear not, my fellow gamers! Bethesda’s got some new games in the pipeline, and they’re promising big things with a revamped version of the engine.
First up, we’ve got Starfield. Have you seen the gameplay footage?
The character animations are looking seriously slick, and the NPCs seem to be a lot more responsive and dynamic.
This is what we’ve been waiting for! And then there’s The Elder Scrolls 6, which we’re all eagerly anticipating.
Studio head Todd Howard has promised that both games will benefit greatly from the new engine, and honestly, it’s about time.
Sure, some players might defend the jankiness of games like Fallout 4, but personally, I’m ready for a more mechanically robust experience.
And I have faith that Bethesda can deliver.
They’ve been working on this new engine for years, so here’s hoping it pays off.
5. A Semi-Open-World-Sandbox – Amnesia: The Bunker
Have you heard about the latest addition to the Amnesia series?
Amnesia: The Bunker is shaping up to be quite the departure from the previous games in the series, and I’m here for it!
This time around, we get to ditch the usual linear gameplay and explore a semi-open world set during World War I.
Plus, get this, we actually get a gun to defend ourselves with – a first for the series!
Now, I know some of you might be thinking that going open-world might not work for a horror game like Amnesia, but trust me when I say that it just might be the perfect fit.
The confined spaces of the prior games created a sense of claustrophobia that made them scary, but imagine that tension on a larger scale.
And with the developers, Frictional Games, promising to keep the experience as tightly curated as ever, we might just get the best installment in the series yet.
So get ready to explore, scavenge, and survive in the terrifying world of Amnesia: The Bunker.
I, for one, can’t wait to see what new horrors await us.
4. Sky Dungeons & Floating Islands – The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Are you as excited as I am for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?
I mean, the trailers are teasing so much potential for this game that I can barely contain myself!
From the floating islands above Hyrule to the promise of new dungeons and a different approach to the open world, it seems like Nintendo is really pushing the envelope with this one.
It’s interesting to see how they are incorporating the idea of verticality into the game with the floating islands.
I can’t wait to explore them and see what secrets they hold.
And who knows, maybe we’ll get to fly or glide from one to another, just like in Skyward Sword.
Of course, with such high expectations and big shoes to fill after Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom will have to bring its A-game.
But with Nintendo’s track record and the glimpses we’ve seen so far, I have a feeling they won’t disappoint.
3. Otachi, Your Dog-Like Ally – Pikmin 4
Oh my goodness, did you see the new Pikmin 4 trailer in the latest Nintendo Direct?
It was amazing!
I am so excited for this game!
They introduced a brand new type of Pikmin, the Ice Pikmin, which can freeze enemies and surfaces.
Can you imagine the new puzzles and challenges that this will bring?
And of course, we got to see the classic Red, Blue, and Yellow Pikmin too, which are always a delight to see in action.
But the real star of the trailer was that strange, dog-like creature that can help carry or charge Pikmin over obstacles like water.
It’s not a Pikmin, but it looks so friendly and cute!
I can’t wait to see what other creatures and obstacles we’ll encounter in the game.
Overall, I am just so hyped for Pikmin 4!
The gameplay looks like it’s going to be so fun and inventive, and I can’t wait to dive in and start exploring this colorful, quirky world.

2. The Flesh Gore System – Dead Island 2
Dead Island 2 is finally coming out this April! It’s been almost a decade in development, so you know it’s going to be something special.
From what we’ve seen in the early gameplay previews, it looks like the team has finally hit their stride and produced a decent end result.
Sure, Dead Island 2 might not be reinventing the wheel, but it has some features that make it stand out in the ever-growing Pantheon of open world zombie games.
For starters, it’s launching with Alexa voice controls – how cool is that?
And even more promisingly, it has a proprietary Gore system called F.L.E.S.H., which stands for Fully Locational Evisceration System for Humanoids.
This means that every zombie combatant in the game is procedurally destructible, which is a fancy way of saying that you can dismantle every part of their anatomy both inside and out.
Now, I know that might sound a bit gruesome, but hear me out.
Every weapon you use to take down the zombies will affect their body in a different way.
Whether you’re using a machete or a shotgun, clothing, skin, muscle, and even bone will react to your weapon of choice.
It’s like a high-tech dismemberment simulator, and it’s going to be so addictive!
I’m telling you, Dead Island 2 is going to have some of the most nauseating yet addictive dismemberment mechanics in video game history.
I can’t wait to get my hands on it and start taking down some zombies!

1. Eye Tracking – The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR
Have you heard about the new PlayStation VR 2?
It’s a game-changer, literally!
The new VR headset from Sony marks a major technological leap forward from the clunky first generation.
And one of its most talked-about features is the addition of eye-tracking technology.
How cool is that?
Now, eye-tracking might not sound like the most exciting thing in the world, but it’s been put to some seriously creative use in the upcoming horror game, The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR.
This game is a spiritual successor to 2016’s PSVR game, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood.
And let me tell you, it’s going to be scary!
The eye-tracking technology in Switchback VR is going to be used to enhance the already palpable horror of the game.
There are going to be terrifying mannequin enemies that can only move when you blink – how creepy is that?
And get this, one of the levels even has a door with the words “Don’t Blink” written on it in blood.
I’m getting chills just thinking about it!
The developers of Switchback VR, Supermassive Games, have also said that the eye-tracking technology will be used in other unique ways throughout the game.
We don’t know the full extent of it yet, but I’m excited to find out when the game releases on March 16th.
