TL;DR: Not officially confirmed. But AdHoc’s co-founders are deep in “serious talks,” Critical Role CEO Travis Willingham is pushing for it “as quickly as possible,” and four million copies sold means the question isn’t if anymore. It’s when.
You finish Dispatch. Credits roll. That song plays.
And then you just… sit there.
Because Invisigal’s arc isn’t finished. Shroud’s predictions are still hanging in the air. The Z-Team left things open in ways that felt too deliberate to be accidental. And now you’re wondering if you’re ever getting back into that world.
You are.
Here’s what we actually know.
Nothing’s Official — But Read the Room
No stage announcement. No trailer. No release date.
But here’s what has happened since the finale dropped — and it tells you everything you need to know.
November 2025. One million copies in ten days. Pierre Shorette — AdHoc co-founder and Chief Creative Officer — goes on the Friends Per Second podcast and says something nobody was saying three weeks earlier: “We’re gonna have to at least think about Season 2 now.”
Three weeks earlier it was a question mark. Now it isn’t.
December 2025. Two million copies. Shorette talks to Eurogamer. The language has shifted completely — Season 2 isn’t hypothetical anymore, it’s a timeline. “We’re entering the time where we’re going to really sit down and lay those plans out.”
Days away, he says. Days from figuring out what comes next.
Meanwhile Travis Willingham — CEO of Critical Role, the people who kept AdHoc financially alive long enough to finish Season 1 — is at GalaxyCon saying he wants Season 2 “as quickly as possible.”
His words. Not a paraphrase. The studio that rescued the game is now pushing for the sequel.
January 2026. Four million copies. Switch ports. Xbox port coming summer 2026.
The studio that almost shut down is now sitting on one of the biggest indie hits in years. Everyone involved — devs, partners, players — is pointing the same direction.

The One Thing That Could Slow This Down
AdHoc is a small team. A few dozen core employees.
And right now they’re not just handling Dispatch ports and updates — they’re also developing a Critical Role game set in Exandria. It’s in early stages but it’s real, and it’s running parallel to everything else.
Shorette calls it “simmering.” Development slowed as Dispatch needed more attention toward the end. Now the question is whether a lean team can run two major projects at once without one breaking.
Willingham knows this too. He says the conversations are happening internally about how to prioritize both. He wants both games. The math is just complicated.
Nobody at AdHoc wants to go back to working six months without a paycheck. And they shouldn’t have to. But scaling up takes time even when the money is there.
What Season 2 Could Actually Look Like
Nothing confirmed here. But AdHoc have let enough slip to sketch something out.
More romance. Shorette confirmed the team cut a significant amount of romance content from Season 1 because they genuinely didn’t think players would care as much as they did. They were wrong. Spectacularly wrong. Season 2 apparently won’t make that same call.
The loose ends are on purpose. Invisigal’s arc. Shroud’s predictions. The questions the finale leaves dangling — none of that is accidental. That’s setup. You only write setup when you’re already thinking about what comes next.
Cut characters might finally show up. Herman and Shorette mentioned at least one hero that didn’t make Season 1 — a character called Winter, described as having a Korean idol face with homeless-chic runway energy. Genuinely unhinged concept. Would absolutely fit the Z-Team.
Aaron Paul is ready. He told Variety before Season 1 even launched: “The door is definitely slightly ajar, for sure, for more.” After the finale he was clearer: “I hope we get to do more.”
Realistically, How Long Are We Waiting?
Honestly? Nobody knows. And if someone tells you they do — they’re guessing.
Season 1 technically took seven years to make. But that number is misleading. It includes years of slow pre-production, a complete design overhaul, losing a publisher mid-development, and months of the team not getting paid. The actual active development window was way shorter than seven years implies.
With stable funding, an established world, a cast that already exists, and a team that now knows exactly what they’re building — the realistic window is probably two to three years from whenever active development starts.
Based on December 2025 statements, that starting gun has either already fired or is about to.
Speculative. All of it. But it’s the most honest read of what’s available.
Why This One Feels Different
Most sequel announcements feel like inevitability dressed up as news.
This doesn’t.
AdHoc built something that came from a genuinely desperate place. A studio days from closing, making a game about second chances, almost not surviving long enough to ship it. The Z-Team’s story about redemption wasn’t just a narrative choice — it was lived in. Players felt that even if they couldn’t name exactly why.
Season 2 isn’t just a business decision for these people. It’s a continuation of something personal.
And that changes what it means.
For the studio. For the story. And for everyone who sat in silence after the credits thinking — one more episode. Please. Just one more.
We’ll update this when something official drops.

FAQ
Is Dispatch Season 2 officially confirmed?
Not yet. AdHoc have confirmed serious internal discussions are happening and that plans are being laid out. Critical Role CEO Travis Willingham has publicly pushed for it. No official announcement as of April 2026.
When will Dispatch Season 2 come out?
No date. Based on studio size and current workload, a realistic estimate is somewhere around 2028-2029 — but that’s speculation, not a confirmed timeline.
Will the same cast return?
Aaron Paul has publicly said he wants to come back. No other casting announcements have been made. Given how Season 1 was built, most of the Z-Team returning in some form is the reasonable expectation.
What platforms will Season 2 be on?
Unknown. Season 1 is on PC and PS5, with Switch ports in January 2026 and Xbox coming summer 2026. Season 2 would likely match or expand that.
Is there a trailer for Dispatch Season 2?
No. Nothing has been shown publicly yet.
